Main goals:
- Improve packaging design to promote reuse and recycling ;
- Increase recycled content in packaging
- Tackle excessive packaging
- Reduce packaging waste
On March 4th, The EU has reached an agreement on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR), signed by the European Parliament and the European Council. The text will be submitted to the representatives of the Member States and to the Parliament's Environment Committee for approval. If it is, it will have to be adopted by both institutions, for application from 18 months after the date of entry into force.
The Council and Parliament have reached consensus on several points. For instance, there will be no restrictions on paper-based single-use packaging in dine-ins, with only an encouragement to provide 10% of takeaway in reusable packaging by 2030. This outcome is considerably less stringent than initially anticipated.
Since we already have both recyclable products and functional reusable packaging solutions, Duni Group is at the forefront of compliance with the legislation. In general, we welcome the ambition of establishing a common legal framework across the EU, ensuring uniformity in regulations.
PFAS not banned
When it comes to PFAS, it is not banned, but reduced to a certain percentage. Duni Group is at the frorefront here as well, since we as of January 1st, 2024, have stopped producing food packaging with added PFAS. We have one of the most extensive ranges of non added PFAS in Europe for boxes, bowls, plates and sealable trays
